Tara was born in Bombay in 1975 and studied at the Cathedral and John Connon High School and completed a double major in economics at
St. Xaviers college. She had keen interest in chess, golf, squash and writing.

Her career has spanned a mere three years and has been packed with an unbelievable number of achievements. Though she has been involved with theatre since she was 14-- she never intended to be a movie star. She began her career 2 and a half years ago as a VJ for MTV with Rahul Khanna and modelling for products like Camay, Pantene Pro-V shampoo, Wipro Shikakai, Raymonds, Thackersays etc.

She made her debut in 1997 with Sudhir Mishra's 'Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin'-- a critically acclaimed film nominated for 10 Screen and Filmfare awards. This was followed by the musical success of Gramco Films 'Bada Din' starring Marc Robinson and Shabana Azmi in1998. She has two more releases this year which include 'Bombay Boys'-- a film opp. Nasiruddin Shah, Naveen Andrews, Rahul Bose, Roshan Seth which is to open at the Toronto festival in 1998 and 'India Today'-- a Hindi-Tamil bilingual opp. Mammooty- the superstar of the south. Her performances in Alyque Padadmsee's highly celebrated drama 'Begum Sumroo' which opens in London in November as also the unreleased 'Bombay Boys' have been extensively praised. Her book a collection of short stories yet untitled and a travelogue of verse titled 'Fifty and Done' will be published in the following year.
